What is the difference between "ủng hộ" and "hỗ trợ" in Vietnamese?

In Vietnamese, hỗ trợ and ủng hộ both translate to “support,” but they are used in different contexts.

• Hỗ trợ = to provide practical help or assistance (actions, resources, services).

• Ủng hộ = to show agreement, encouragement, or approval (opinions, feelings, or backing an idea/person).

Think of it this way:
👉 Hỗ trợ = “helping hands”
👉 Ủng hộ = “agreeing or cheering”

→ I support (help) you with your homework.

• Tôi ủng hộ ý kiến của bạn.
→ I support (agree with) your opinion.

→ I agree with you and will help you.
